History of Hypnosis

Ancient Hypnotism practice: In ancient India the Hindus often took the ill to special sleep temples where they were treated by hypnotic suggestion. Some other predecessors to modern hypnosis include Apollonius of Tyana in the third century CE and special “temple sleep” practices of the Asclepian cult in ancient Greece.

Even Shakespeare described altered states resembling hypnosis.

Franz Mesmer coined the term "Mesmerism" as he believed that like in animal magnetism, there are invisible fluids that magnetically connect people. Therefore patients' conditions can be malleable through influencing those fluids. Mesmer's work was instrumental in development of theory of hypnotism and lead to the works of James Braid.

James Braid was the first to adopt the term "hypnotism" in 1842. He also called it a "sleep of nerves". Braid was a physician and is credited as a "father of modern hypnotism".

Sigmund Freud was a neurologist who founded the first school of psychoanalysis and began to specialize in uncovering unconscious mechanisms trough conversations between the patient and the clinician. He was the first specialist in the field of psychoanalysis and the first one to employ active hypnotic techniques and mechanisms of unconscious mind responses and spontaneous changes resulting in the patient's wellness.

Milton Erickson, M.D., is generally acknowledged to be the worlds' most leading clinical hypnotist in helping people in their rapid achievement of  their desired goals. We are scholars and practitioners following the steps of his theories and techniques.
